Project Overview

TGI Cargo recently managed the intricate logistics of transporting a 37-tonne crane body and its accessories from Brisbane to Singapore. The crane accessories were securely packed into nine containers, while the crane body, initially intended for Breakbulk (BBK) transport, was ultimately shipped on a 40 Ft Flat Rack (FR).

Challenges and Solutions

Throughout this project, we faced and overcame several significant challenges:

• Space Constraints with BBK Carriers: Our initial bookings were delayed due to limited space availability with BBK carriers from Brisbane to Singapore. This required us to explore alternative shipping options.
• Shipping Line Restrictions: One shipping line refused to transport second-hand cranes, prompting us to find another carrier. We secured a booking with a different line, but the surveyor initially deemed the crane too heavy for an FR.
• Surveyor Approval: To address the weight concern, we engaged a second surveyor for a re-evaluation. After thorough assessments and adjustments, we successfully packed the crane body onto the FR.
• Last-Minute Approval: The vessel operator’s acceptance was uncertain until the final moments. The crane was packed, lashed, surveyed and transported to the port, with final approval received just in time for loading.

Outcome

Despite these hurdles, our team showcased exceptional problem-solving skills and determination. The crane body was successfully shipped on a Flat Rack, ensuring timely delivery to Singapore. This project underscores our expertise in handling complex logistics and our commitment to overcoming challenges to meet client needs.
