Project Overview
TGI Cargo was engaged to transport a Bergkamp M1E3 Construction Vehicle with accessories at a total weight of 21.44 tonnes from Port Kembla, New South Wales, Australia to Baltimore in the USA. We coordinated and managed the successful transport with our partners, stevedores and the shipping line, from origin to destination.
Challenges and Solutions
We were called to rise to two significant challenges along the way.
- Pivot from full RORO shipping to partial breakbulk. In accordance with international sea freight IMO/UN requirements, the machine battery was shipped in isolation mode; however, once the vessel arrived at Busan, there were issues removing it from the ship as the machine wouldn’t start. Very quickly shipper and stevedore technical teams were onto a solution, transshipping the machine on the next available vessel as breakbulk rather than Roll on Roll off.
- Port delays in the USA. Industry unrest and local USA wharfie strikes at the Port of Baltimore caused some delays on arrival, which required the application of patience and grace.
Outcome
Our team ensured that every step of the process was executed as seamlessly as possible with fast responses to challenges and delays. This resulted in a successful and safe delivery with as little disruption to transit as possible. Another example of TGI Cargo’s expertise in rising to the challenges.
